Mrs. Georgia Durbin Sanders

April 26, 1921 – November 7, 2003
Georgia Lee Durbin Sanders was born April 26, 1921. She was a native of Natchez, Mississippi. She was married to the late Murdell Sanders, and the mother of one son, Stephen Sanders.
She received her B.S. degree from Southern University and her Master’s degree from Kansas State University in Home Economics. She retired from Louisiana State University, where she worked many years as a 4-H Specialist with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service.
She was a member and the past President of Mu Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., a life member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and a member of many other fine organizations.
She was the sponsoring advisor for the undergraduate chapter at Louisiana State University, Rho Epsilon, since is chartering in 1975. She loved her “babies” and continued to sponsor the chapter until health problems prevented her from doing so.
In 2003, with her blessings, Omicron Sigma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. named their annual scholarship after Mrs. Georgia D. Sanders. The honoree was present at the first scholarship presentation reception.
The Georgia D. Sanders Scholarship is awarded annually to two young ladies in the community that have fostered not only academic achievements, but also community service and exemplify the ideas of Finer Womanhood.

2020 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDEES
The Omicron Sigma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. has chosen its 2020 Georgia D. Sanders Scholarship recipients. This year’s awardees are Miss Jayla Johnson, Miss Melanie Howard, and Miss Aaliyah Muhammad.
Johnson is a 2020 graduate of Lee Magnet High School. In the fall, she will attend Howard University, where her intended major will be sociology.
Howard is a 2020 magna cum laude graduate of Baton Rouge Magnet High School. She will attend Wellesley College, where she will major in biochemistry with a concentration in premed.
Muhammad is a 2020 graduate of Baton Rouge Magnet High School. She has made plans to attend Southeastern University of Louisiana and major in political science.
Johnson is a 2020 graduate of Lee Magnet High School. In the fall, she will attend Howard University, where her intended major will be sociology.
Howard is a 2020 magna cum laude graduate of Baton Rouge Magnet High School. She will attend Wellesley College, where she will major in biochemistry with a concentration in premed.
Muhammad is a 2020 graduate of Baton Rouge Magnet High School. She has made plans to attend Southeastern University of Louisiana and major in political science.
